4 Die As Car Falls Into Reservoir
BAKER CITY, Ore. - Four Oregon residents are dead after their car went off a gravel road, careened 770 feet down a steep embankment and plunged into Hells Canyon Reservoir.
Police identified the victims of the Friday night accident as Forest Ora "Gus" Garrigus, 67, of Oxbow; Fred Louis Lancaster, 63, of Oxbow; Arthur Lee Shepherd, 62, and Shirley Carole Shepherd, 59, both of Halfway.
Authorities said all four suffered multiple injuries during the crash and died before the car entered the reservoir.
A man called 911 on his cellular phone after seeing a cloud of dust on the slope above the water and seeing oil and debris in the
reservoir.
