Mike Blowers

My first memory of baseball: When I was 8, my stepdad brought home an old catcher's mitt and took me and my brother into the back yard of our house in Lawton, Okla. I loved it right away, but over time I think that love was mingled with the memory of our stepdad, Carlos Ramos. At that time, he was just dating Mom and it was the first real bonding thing we did with him. Favorite reading: I read most in the offseason and it varies, but I go through the newspaper every evening. Favorite hobby: Golf (I'm a 3 handicap). I'd love to be a pro golfer. And no, when I play other guys on the team I don't give strokes. Favorite TV: "Seinfeld," evening news. Favorite movie: "The Fugitive," or anything with Harrison Ford. Favorite music: Country. I was raised in Oklahoma, remember. Best day of my life: The day my wife, Nicole, agreed to marry me. I had chased her for eight years. And, without saying, the birth of our three children. I dream of visiting: Australia, and we're going to go when I retire from baseball. Favorite vehicle: Honestly? A Suburban. I'm too practical, especially with three kids. If I could do anything in life different, I would: Probably study harder. With a solid education, you can do anything. Advice to kids: Respect your parents. Never forget the world is unlimited, so don't limit yourself. Look at me. Back at Bethel High (in Spanaway), they said I'd never play in the big leagues . . . and here I am.
