Ex-NBA Player Roberts Found Shot To Death
TULSA, Okla. - Anthony Roberts, who played basketball at Oral Roberts and in the NBA, was found shot to death early yesterday outside his Tulsa apartment, police said.
Tulsa television station KJRH reported that Roberts, 42, was shot in the back during an argument with two men. Authorities said no arrests have been made.
Roberts played at Oral Roberts from 1973 thru 1977, averaging 21.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He is third on the Golden Eagles' career scoring list with 2,341 points.
In his senior year, Roberts was the nation's No. 2 scorer, averaging 34.0 points. He set an NIT record with 65 points against Oregon on March 9, 1977.
Roberts was drafted by Denver in 1977 and played five years with the Nuggets before going to the Washington Bullets for a brief stay.
Ewing injured, questionable
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Patrick Ewing suffered an injury to his left triceps muscle and is questionable for New York's game today in Orlando.
Ewing could not raise his arm above his head Friday night after the Knicks' 92-86 loss to New Jersey. Ewing was injured on the first play of the second half and did not return.
The loss raised serious questions about the Knicks' depth when Ewing is not on the court.
"We can't step up without him; we're not a championship-caliber team," said reserve center Herb Williams. "Simple as that. We still haven't learned to do that."
