Northwest -- UW's Levesque Named Gymnastics Coach Of Year

Washington's Bob Levesque has been named Pac-10 women's gymnastics coach of the year in a vote of conference coaches.

Levesque, in his seventh year as coach, led the Huskies to a third-place finish at the Pac-10 Championships last weekend in Tucson, Ariz., the school's best finish in 10 years.

The Huskies are ranked No. 11 in the collegiate gymnastics rankings. They will compete in regionals April 5 at Boise State.

Thomas, Stottlemyre honored

TULSA, Okla. - Central Washington forward Willie Thomas has been named to the NAIA All-America second team. The 6-foot-5 senior averaged 18.5 points per game. He was on the NAIA all-tournament team, scoring 75 points in three games. Central lost in the quarterfinals to Cumberland.

Mark Stottlemyre of Seattle University was an All-America honorable mention.

Sprinter sets indoor record

BOSTON - Seattle's Denise Foreman sprinted to three U.S. Masters track and field indoor titles Sunday, setting a world record in the process. Foreman, 40, set her third world mark in two months by winning the 60-meter dash in 8.01 seconds. Foreman also won the 200 and 400.

-- USC beat Washington 7-2 in women's tennis. The Husky victories were from freshman Jennifer Svanfelt in No. 6 singles, and freshmen Zeta Wagner and Jennifer Wu in No. 2 doubles.

-- Washington State's Leo Slack is in second place and Heidi Shultz is fourth after the first day of the Fresno State

Decathlon/Heptathlon competition.

-- The Western Washington women's golf team leads by 12 strokes after the first round of the Willamette Invitational at Illahee Hills Country Club in Salem, Ore. The Vikings' Sherri Lockner is the individual leader at 7-over-par 79. She leads by six strokes.

-- The baseball game between Washington and Cal State Northridge was postponed due to rain with Northridge leading 8-3 in the top of the fifth. The teams were to resume the game today.
