Medal To Go To Lone Survivor
SEATTLE - The Coast Guard is awarding a medal to the lone survivor of a lifeboat that capsized in heavy seas last month as crew members tried to rescue two people from a swamped sailboat off La Push, Clallam County.
Seaman Apprentice Benjamin Wingo, 19, of Bremerton, will be awarded the Coast Guard Medal. He will receive the citation Monday at the Coast Guard's Quillayute River Station near La Push.
The Quileute Tribe will also be honored with the Public Service Award for its responsiveness and support the night of the accident, in which three guardsmen died.
