Cg Rescue Boat Will Be Cut Up, Airlifted Off LA Push Beach

LA PUSH, Clallam County - The Coast Guard rescue boat in which three guardsmen died Feb. 12 will be cut into three pieces on Sunday, if weather and tides permit, and be lifted from the beach by helicopter.

A Coast Guard team investigating the tragedy has completed its examination of the boat, said a Coast Guard spokeswoman. Their report will be made public in a month.

Three of the crew of the four-person boat dispatched to rescue a couple on a sailboat died when the rescue boat was battered by wind and seas.

Seaman Apprentice Benjamin Wingo was the only crewman to survive. Seaman Clinton Miniken, 22; Petty Officer 2nd Class David Bosley, 36; and Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Schlimme, 24, were swept overboard.
