Ford Sells Heavy-Truck Unit To Freightliner In Portland

DETROIT - Ford Motor today said it will sell its heavy-duty truck business to Portland's Freightliner, a subsidiary of Germany's Daimler-Benz and one of the world's largest commercial truck manufacturers.

Terms of the deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, were not disclosed.

Freightliner will gain the technology, tooling and assembly equipment for Ford's heavy-duty trucks, sold for such uses as construction, oil delivery, firefighting and snow plowing.

The sale covers Ford's heavy-duty truck business in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Australia.
