Rodman Agrees To Kick In $200,000 To Cameraman
MINNEAPOLIS - The cameraman kicked by Dennis Rodman will not pursue an assault charge against the Chicago Bulls' star after agreeing to an out-of-court settlement for $200,000.
Minneapolis police said today that Eugene Amos told them during the weekend he would not pursue charges because a settlement was being negotiated. A source who asked not to be identified told The Associated Press yesterday that Rodman had agreed to pay the settlement.
Andrew Luger, Rodman's Minneapolis-based attorney, declined comment on the settlement today.
Rodman kicked Amos in the groin during a game at the Target Center last Wednesday.
The Bulls were playing the Timberwolves when Rodman stumbled out of bounds over a photographer. Rodman kicked Amos, who was sitting nearby, after Amos turned his camera on him. The game was delayed for seven minutes as Amos was carried off on a stretcher and treated briefly at a local hospital.
Amos filed an assault report the night of the game and said he intended to pursue charges. He declined comment last night, referring all questions to his attorney, Gale Pearson. She did not return telephone messages last night or today.
WCCO-TV also reported last night that a six-figure settlement had been reached.
If a criminal charge had been filed, Rodman most likely would have faced fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison and a $3,000 fine.
