Teen Held In Death Of Man, 89

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. - A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the stabbing death of an 89-year-old man in his apartment in this small, quiet town along the Columbia River.

Joseph Ventris was arrested Friday and will face a charge of aggravated murder, said Marty Sells, Columbia County district attorney.

A neighbor found Vergil Elmer Crist's body Aug. 10. He lived alone, and had last been seen alive the night before. Sells said the apparent motive was robbery.
