Gamespeak -- Let's Hope Overused Word Disappears Into Obscurity
With the Olympic Games doing a fast fade into mere memory and the record books, is it asking too much for an equal disappearance from the media vocabulary of that ancient and now sadly overused buzzword, "venue"?
All the word means is "space, scene, locale, place, location, jurisdiction, etc." Blessedly, its use has heretofore been confined mainly to the courts and lawyers (who revel in obfuscation).
May I hope the word slips into disuse before common usage makes it an everyday term? Spare us from ever hearing, "Ma, can I go play at Jimmy's venue?" or even worse, "Sure, babe, your venue or mine?" Dave Page
