Seattle Lighting Purchased By Globe For $1.25 Million

SEATTLE - A federal bankruptcy judge has approved the purchase of Seattle Lighting Fixture Co., one of the Puget Sound area's largest lighting distributors, by Globe Lighting Supply of Portland.

Seattle Lighting, with 124 employees, had been under federal bankruptcy protection since March, when it said competition from large chains such as Eagle Hardware & Garden, Home Depot and others had cut into its sales and profits.

The sale will total about $1.25 million, including inventory, said Dan Dolan, Globe president. Nine jobs will be lost when Globe closes a Seattle Lighting distribution center and stores in Bellingham and Salem, Ore. Other employees will be transferred.

Globe is a 36-year-old, family-owned lighting business that operates 13 stores in Washington and Oregon. Its business is similar to that of Seattle Lighting.

Globe purchased all assets in 12 store locations in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. It will continue operating as Seattle Lighting in some areas.
