Prep Baseball -- Wesco Fills Nine Spots In All-State Series

EAST WENATCHEE - Everett and Marysville-Pilchuck each filled two spots among the nine seniors from the Western Conference selected to play in this weekend's all-state baseball Series.

The games are Saturday and Sunday at Eastmont High School.

Selected to the series from Everett were outfielders Mike Mickelberry and Kurt Koshelnik. Catcher Kevin Joyner and outfielder Kyle Woods were picked from Marysville-Pilchuck.

Also named to the series from the WesCo were Cascade infielder Shawn Stevenson, Sehome outfielder Paul Lockhart, Lake Stevens pitcher Brandon Hanzal, Meadowdale infielder Brian Sykes and Stanwood outfielder Troy Miller.

Also voted to the series from the Cascade League were infielder Aaron Perez of Lakewood and infielder Gary Poplin of Granite Falls.

The AA-A Nationals will see the first action of the series at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the AAA-B Nationals. The game between the Americans is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the winners and losers meeting on Sunday for the final day.

Sunday's games are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with the MVP awards presentation taking place after the final game.

The 72 seniors were selected on the basis of performance in their season, career and in state feeder games.
