NFL -- Oilers And Roby Agree To Contract

HOUSTON - The Houston Oilers agreed to terms with veteran punter Reggie Roby on a four-year contract worth $2.7 million.

Roby, beginning his 14th NFL season, averaged a club record 42.8 yards per punt last season for Tampa Bay.

-- The Patriots extended the contract of veteran backup quarterback Scott Zolak, 28, through the 1998 season and re-signed cornerback Vernon Lewis, a restricted free agent, to a two-year deal.

-- Running back Toraino Singleton was released by Tampa Bay after being sentenced in El Paso, Texas, to 12 years in prison on a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon - his fists. The Buccaneers, who signed Singleton in April, released him after hearing about the Friday sentence. He was convicted of breaking the nose of one man and fracturing the jaw of another during a fight in May 1994.
