Skeletal Remains Identified
CENTRALIA - Skeletal remains found in the attic of a long-abandoned Lewis County farmhouse have been identified as those of a woman who vanished in 1983.
Dental records were used to identify Donna Jean Haynes, said sheriff's Chief Criminal Deputy Gordon Spanski. More than that might never be known, he said.
The remains were found Wednesday by workers tearing down the century-old farmhouse near Salkum, Haynes' small hometown about 20 miles southeast of this southwest Washington city.
The house had been abandoned since the 1970s. Indications are that Haynes' body had been in the attic crawl space since she disappeared. Haynes, 54, who lived alone, was reported missing in October 1983. Foul play was suspected, but no arrests were ever made. The case has been reopened.
