What to expect - Five returning starters have improved their league record to 7-11 this year. Although in sixth place, a few victories would move them into position for a playoff spot.
Highline Thunderbirds
Coach - Cara Hoyt, second season.
1995 record - 15-17 league, 19-20 overall. Fifth in Northern Division.
Returning players (all sophomores) - Debi Butler, P/1B; Nealah Lee, C; Mandi Popejoy, OF.
Key newcomers (all freshmen) - Jamie Guglielmelli, P; Kristen Brown, 3B; Elissa Garrels, OF; Carrie Frisinger, 3B.
What to expect - With only three returning starters, the Thunderbirds are 8-12 in league, 9-13 overall.
If they can learn how to win close games, this inexperienced bunch still has time to challenge for one of the final playoff berths.

Coach - Dan Spencer, fifth season.
1995 record - 19-7 league, 48-13 overall. Second in Western Division. Third place at NWAACC Tournament.

What to expect - With the return of four position starters and three pitchers, the Gators have gone 6-2 in league, 12-10 overall and stand in second place. If their hitters can catch up to their experienced pitchers, the Gators might be able to step up from the runner-up position they have held for the past three years.
