State's Best High-School Basketball Teams
The Seattle Times selected the best high-school boys teams and players in state basketball history with input from current and former coaches Marv Harshman, Dean Nicholson, Franks Ahern, Irv Leifer and Ed Pepple.

1. Cleveland, 1976, 23-1. Comment: Four Division I players, back-to-back AAA-AA titles. 2. Garfield, 1974, 24-0. Comment: Keith Harrell-led team was running, dunking machine. 3. Mercer Island, 1985, 28-1. Comment: Trio to Division I: Quin Snyder, Brian Schwabe, Eric Brady. 4. Everett, 1940, 29-0. Arguably most dominant tea, ever; won title game 64-19. 5. Davis, 1965, 25-0. Comment: Yakima club included WSU's Ted Wierman, Lenny Allen; (tie) Garfield, 1980, 25-0. Comment: Alvin Vaughn directed one of Al Haiston's best teams.
Best Girls teams The Times selected the best high-school girls teams and players in state basketball history with input from current and former coaches Jeannie Helfer, Kathy Langston, Sandy Schneider, Tony Higgins and Dennis Olson.
1. Lakeside, 1994, 27-0. Comment: Best of great string of AA Lakeside teams. Loaded, led by Takiyah Jackson. 2. Sammamish, 1976, 20-0. Comment: C.J. Sealey, Sue Turna, Maureen Dunn all started for Seattle U. 3. Central Valley, 1993, 29-0. Comment: Most dominant of long line of Spokane champions. Starring Kristin Hepton. 4. Auburn, 1983, 27-0. Comment: Led by Division I trio - Lisa Raschkow (UW), Joni Mauch (WSU), Carla Curfman (Gonzaga) - but four others played in college. 5. Prairie, 1994, 27-0. Comment: Dominating AA champ moved up to AAA to win title with star Sonja Curtis.
