Kansas State Women's Coach Suspended

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Brian Agler, Kansas State women's basketball coach, was suspended pending an NCAA rules violation investigation, and former men's coach Jack Hartman was named interim replacement, school officials said yesterday.

The school didn't specify the nature of the investigation and didn't say when Agler was suspended.

"We can't really comment on anything right now, pending further investigation," said Ben Boyle, sports information director for Kansas State.

"They're still looking into the matter."

Hartman, the winningest basketball coach in Kansas State history with 295 victories in 16 seasons, was expected to coach the women's team last night against Nebraska.

Agler became coach in 1993. His team was 13-14 his first season and 14-13 in 1994-1995. Kansas State is 11-12 this season.
