Alexis Hotel To Double In Size To 109 Rooms

The Alexis Hotel in downtown Seattle will double in size when it expands into the adjoining Arlington Suites property.

Construction is underway on a $5 million project that will expand the hotel from 54 to 109 rooms and add a conference center, fitness room, interior connections and a day spa, said Sara Ledoux of the San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group Inc.

Kimpton has managed the Alexis since 1992 and is now in the process of buying it and the Arlington Suites. The project is expected to be finished by March.

Kimpton, a limited partnership run by Bill Kimpton and Seattle investor Gordon Sondland, is also purchasing the Painted Table restaurant and Bookstore bar.

The Alexis is one of four Seattle hotels rated four stars by the Mobil Travel Guide.

The Kimpton Group manages or operates 19 hotels and 26 restaurants on the West Coast, including Hotel Vintage Park and Tulio Ristorante in Seattle.

Sondland heads Dunson Equities, whose affiliates own or are principal investors in The Roosevelt and the Paramount Hotel (now under construction) in Seattle.
