Man Gets 13 Years In Murder Of Teen

EVERETT - A 22-year-old Everett man has been sentenced to 13 years and eight months in prison for the 1994 murder of a 17-year-old Everett teenager.

In November, Anthony Crane pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slaying of Matthew Everist. He was sentenced yesterday

in Snohomish County Superior Court.

Everist was reported missing in January 1994. Eight months later, his remains were found along the Snohomish River near Everett's Lowell area. He had been stabbed to death.

Dwayne Dodgen, 23, and Crane were initially convicted of rendering criminal assistance for their role in Everist's death. However, prosecutors later discovered evidence indicating Dodgen and Crane were directly involved in the slaying, and both were charged with murder, according to court papers. Dodgen is scheduled to go to trial next week.

Seth Weber, 22, was initially charged with first-degree murder for his role in Everist's death, but those charges will be reduced to second-degree murder if he continues to help in the prosecution of Dodgen, according to prosecutors.
