Brother Held In Lawyer's Death
PORTLAND - The brother of an Oregon woman who was stabbed to death during a holiday visit to her parents' home in Fairfield, Calif., has been arrested and charged with murder.
Linda Schafer, 43, of Hood River, Ore., died Friday night of stab wounds to the chest and neck. She also was beaten with a blunt instrument, said Fairfield police, who responded to a call of a domestic dispute.
Schafer's brother, Gary Thomas Ramsey, 45, was being held in the Solano County Jail pending arraignment.
Ramsey, his wife and three children lived with his parents in Fairfield, southwest of Sacramento.
Hood River attorney Donna Meeks Kelly, an associate and friend of Schafer's, said Gary Ramsey "had a long history of violence."
Schafer "was down there taking care of her parents, trying to get him and his family moved out of the house," Meeks Kelly said. Schafer, who was divorced, had two daughters and a granddaughter.
