Calvin Goings, 22, Becomes Newest, Youngest Senator

Calvin Goings, 22, a Puyallup bank officer, is the newest member of the Washington state Legislature and the youngest state senator in Washington history.

Goings was named to fill the vacancy left when Senate Majority Leader Marc Gaspard resigned to head the state Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The Democrat was confirmed this week in a joint meeting of the King and Pierce County councils. The 25th District spans the county line.

Goings, who was sworn in yesterday, has taken a leave of absence as assistant manager of a Key Bank branch in Puyallup.
