Girls Basketball / Kingco -- Bothell's Krell Sinks Redmond
BOTHELL - Sophomore wing Jennae Krell hit three three-pointers, including a big one late in the game, as Bothell edged Redmond 56-50 in a KingCo Conference girls basketball game last night.
Krell finished with 20 points as the Cougars (2-0 KingCo, 5-0 overall) stayed unbeaten. Jennifer Babin added 17 points for the Cougars.
Redmond (0-2 league) was led by Aubrey McFadyen's 18 points and Lauren Ashbaugh's 16.
OTHER GAMES
At Eastlake 71, Inglemoor 65 - Junior guard Kim Sorenson, who scored 27 points, hit six of eight free throws down the stretch as the Wolves (2-0, 2-0) held off the Vikings (0-2 league). Shera Looney added 18 points and 14 rebounds and Brooke Ingalls had 16 points for Eastlake. Rose Connelly's 19 points led four double-figure Viking scorers.
At Mercer Island 71, Bellevue 64 - Jamie and Lexie Richards scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, to lead the Islanders (1-1, 1-1). Mercer Island sank eight-three pointers. The Islanders outscored the Wolverines 43-31 in the second and third periods to pull away. Ali Jefferson scored 19 and Misty Gabbard 18 for Bellevue.
Interlake 51, at Juanita 27 - The Saints trailed 10-9 after one quarter, then outscored the Rebels 42-17 the rest of the way. Amie Karkainen scored 15 points and Syesha Thomas and Rosalie Shaw 10 each for Interlake (1-1 KingCo). Shennae McNairy's 11 points led Juanita (1-1, 2-2).
Lake Washington 59, at Newport 25 - Aurora Erickson came off the bench to score all nine of her points in the second quarter and help jump-start the Kangaroos. Lake Washington led 6-5 after one quarter before outscoring Newport 16-4 in the second. Kelly Middleworth's 11 points led a balanced attack for the Kangs (2-0, 4-0). Newport is 0-2, 0-3.
Foster 69, at Sammamish 54 - Liz Balch scored all of her 34 points in the paint as Class A Foster handed the Totems a nonleague defeat. The 5-foot-7 Balch, who scored many of her points on the fast break, had 25 in the first half. Sherita Apodaca had 14 points and seven rebounds for unbeaten Foster. Jenny Lauren and Shelby Henkel each had 10 points for Sammamish (0-2).
