Northwest -- Sounders' Win Streak Ends In Shootout Loss

ATLANTA - It took a shootout, but the Seattle Sounders' seven-game winning streak came to an end last night as the Atlanta Ruckus held on for a 2-1 victory in an A-League game.

The last time Seattle lost an A-League match was June 29 at Memorial Stadium against Atlanta, also in a 2-1 shootout.

Despite the loss, Seattle (14-4, 39 points) still picked up a one point and increased its first-place lead over second-place Montreal (11-5, 34 points). The third-place Ruckus evened their record at 10-10 (26 points).

In the shootout, the Sounders held a 2-1 lead as Peter Hattrup and Neil Megson each scored, but three straight misses kept Atlanta's hopes alive. Atlanta's Lenin Steenkamp, the fifth shooter, scored to tie the match at 2-2. Then after Seattle's David Hoggan missed his attempt wide left, Atlanta's Mo Suri slid the game-winner past goalie Marcus Hahnemann.
