Panel Picks Transportation-Hub Site
EVERETT - The City Council yesterday chose a two-block industrial area southeast of downtown as a site for a future $30 million transportation hub.
The transportation center, scheduled for completion in 1998, will be on Pacific Avenue, south of the Eagle Hardware store.
Community Transit and Greyhound buses, Amtrak trains, taxis and shuttles are expected to operate out of the center.
The City Council had considered a site closer to downtown, but it would have been more costly and caused several businesses to move, said Paul Kaftanski, city transportation systems manager.
Money to build the center will come from federal, state and local sources, including private funding, Kaftanski said.
