Teen Guilty In Lynnwood Killing
EVERETT - A 17-year-old youth faces 30 to 40 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder and first-degree assault in a 1994 attack at a Lynnwood park.
John Lal of Everett will be sentenced Aug. 8, said Dave Hiltner, the Snohomish County deputy prosecutor who handled the case.
Lal and three other young men attacked and killed Michael Killpack, 21, on June 17, 1994, at Scriber Lake Park in Lynnwood.
Killpack, of Everett, died after being beaten and shot. A second victim, Michael Conner, 24, of Mukilteo, suffered head injuries after being hit with a baseball bat.
The group allegedly went to the lake as part of a plot to fake a purchase of marijuana in order to steal it from Killpack and Conner.
Lal was convicted Thursday afternoon after a jury deliberated about 4 1/2 hours, Hiltner said. Lal was was tried as an adult because of the seriousness of the crime.
Aaron Davis, 21, and William Pursley, 20, both pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the case. Pursley will be sentenced July 5, and Davis will be sentenced Aug. 7. Both men face prison sentences of more than 20 years.
Niguel Jones, 18, pleaded guilty in October to charges of first-degree murder and first-degree assault. He was sentenced Dec. 19 to 28 years, four months in prison.
