Music Notes

Have a ball: The album Neil Young recorded locally with Pearl Jam, "Mirror Ball," will be released June 27 on Reprise Records. Among the songs on it are "Throw Your Weapons Down," "I'm the Ocean," "Peace & Love" and "Act of Love." All the members of Pearl Jam participated, including Eddie Vedder on guitar. Rumors abound that Young will tour with Pearl Jam in the fall.

Quickstep Forever: The Seattle band Green Apple Quickstep has a song on the soundtrack of "Batman Forever," the new movie starring Val Kilmer, opening June 16. The Quickstep's song is called "8." Other bands on the soundtrack, to be released Tuesday on Atlantic Records, include U2 ("Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"), Seal ("Kiss From A Rose"), PJ Harvey ("One Time Too Many"), Brandy ("Where Are You Now?"), Mazzy Star ("Tell Me Now") Nick Cave ("There Is A Light") and the Offspring ("Smash It Up"). A sneak preview of the soundtrack is available on the "Batman Forever" web site, batmanforever.com.

Winners all: Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" and Hole's "Violet" videos have won silver Clio Awards in the alternative category, which was won by the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage," which took the gold. The Clios have long been the Oscars of the advertising business, and last year music videos were added to its awards list. The judges included Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, as well as David Byrne, Rosanne Cash, Peter Gabriel, Reba McEntire, Joni Mitchell and Steven Tyler. Other winners: Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels" (rock), US3's "Cantaloop" (urban) and Martina McBride's "Independence Day" (country). The panel of judges did not award a gold in the "pop" category, because they felt none of the submitted videos was good enough.
