Perkins, a freshman, captured the Class AA state singles title by beating a familiar opponent, teammate Lara Botts, 6-2, 6-3. Botts, a state-tournament veteran, placed fourth her freshman season, third as a sophomore and second last season. Perkins also beat Botts for the Seamount League and Sea-King District titles.
Lindbergh baseball team
The Eagles, coached by Craig Wrolstad, successfully defended their Class AA state title in dramatic fashion. They went 12 innings to beat top-ranked West Valley of Yakima 2-0 in the semifinals. Tyler Willis threw 11 scoreless frames before a leg cramp forced him to the bench. In the final, Lindbergh rallied from a 2-0 deficit against No. 2 Capital of Olympia and won 4-3 on Kipp Wisk's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth.
