Teenage Skier Dies In Fall Down Slope At Mount Hood

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. - A teenage skier died Sunday after she tumbled two-thirds of the way down a slope at Mount Hood Meadows.

Alicia Bachman, 16, of Molalla, was skiing at a high rate of speed down a challenging run when she crashed on a large field of moguls, witnesses said.

She hit her head several times while cartwheeling down the ski run.

The girl probably suffered head or spinal injuries, said Medical Examiner Steve Becker, who pronounced her dead at the scene of the 10:30 a.m. accident.

The weather was clear at the time, with the slopes covered with semifrozen snow.
