The Simpson Trial -- A Look At The Latest Developments On The O.J. Simpson Murder Trial
Today Detective Philip Vannatter was to return to the witness stand.
Yesterday Detective Mark Fuhrman finished his testimony by telling prosecutor Marcia Clark that when he first went to the crime scene, he didn't know the time of death, cause of death, where O.J. Simpson was or whether there were any eyewitnesses to the killings.
Vannatter, one of the lead detectives, testified he saw five blood drops leading away from the bodies toward the driveway. As a result, he believed the killer was bleeding or carrying an object that was dripping blood. He said he also saw molded footprints on the front steps and between the victims. He described molded prints as impressions left after a person steps in blood.
Other witness Frank Spangler: Lieutenant, commanding officer of the West Los Angeles police station; testified that Fuhrman was rarely alone at the crime scene; said he saw only one glove around the bodies.
Apologies all around Clark and defense attorney F. Lee Bailey exchanged apologies a day after calling each other names in the courtroom outside the jury's presence. Clark called Bailey a liar and Bailey criticized Clark's eyesight and memory.
Judge has a say Judge Lance Ito issued a written order governing attorney conduct. Both sides must be courteous to the other, show up on time and address only the judge, not each other.
Birthday wishes Ito started the court session with birthday greetings for a special lady, "Ruth Archie, who is one of our regular audience." Court officials couldn't confirm the spelling of her name or her age, although they did say she was a TV viewer and unrelated to the judge.
Contradiction A former Marine recruiter has contradicted Detective Mark Fuhrman's testimony that he never met a woman who accused the detective of making racial slurs. But Joseph Anthony Foss said yesterday that he never heard Fuhrman make the racial remarks that Kathleen Bell alleges, and that Bell never mentioned any remarks to him.
