Boys Basketball / Class B Tournament -- Toutle Lake, Dayton Reach The Title Game
SPOKANE - Nick Andrew scored 18 points as the Toutle Lake Fighting Ducks edged the Sprague-Harrington Falcons 67-65 last night to make it to the state Class B boys high school championship game.
Eighth-ranked Toutle Lake (25-1) plays second-ranked Dayton (27-1) for the state title at 9 p.m. at the Spokane Coliseum. Sprague-Harrington (28-2) faces Adna (24-2) for third place.
Dayton beat top-ranked Adna 53-44 in last night's other semifinal game.
The Toutle Lake/Sprague-Harrington semifinal was tied at 58 with 3 minutes to go when Toutle Lake got the go-ahead basket from Greg Kilponen.
With 23 seconds left, Sprague-Harrington's Ryan Floyd, who scored 36 points total, missed his final four shots and a chance to tie the game.
Toutle Lake was 26 for 63 from the field for 41 percent. Sprague-Harrington was 23 for 58, or 40 percent. The Falcons made nine of 22 3-pointers.
Gary Wick scored 15 points for the Fighting Ducks. Kilponen added 14.
OTHER GAMES
Dayton 53, Adna 44 - Will Hutchens scored 16 points to lead Dayton. The Bulldogs got off to a strong start with a 19-6 first quarter, but Adna rallied to close to with four, 28-24, by halftime. The game was tied at 37-all early in the fourth when the Mike Gembala made the go-ahead basket for Dayton.
Snohomish Co. Christian 66, Summit 38 - Ben Swetman scored 27 points to lead the Snohomish County Christian Lions past the Summit Invaders 66-38 in a loser-out game.
The Lions (19-7) outscored Summit (21-8) all four quarters and shot 41 percent from the field.
Kyle Davis hit 14 points for Snohomish County Christian.
Pablo Schreiber paced the Invaders with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Garfield-Palouse 52, Mabton 51 - Rob Tiegs sank the winning free throw with one second remaining as Garfield-Palouse edged Mabton.
Tacoma Baptist 52, Naselle 43 - Led by Weibe Van Der Hoek's 17 points and 16 rebounds, the Tacoma Baptist Crusaders overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to oust Naselle.
Naselle's Lamar Wirkkala led all scorers with 24 points.
Pateros 63, Almira-Coulee-Hartline 58 - Garrett Zwar and Patrick Hunter combined for 32 points to lead Pateros.
