4 WSU Football Players Suspended After Brawl

A week before the start of spring football practice at Washington State University, the core of the Cougars' offensive line has been suspended from the team.

Rick Dickson, WSU athletic director, yesterday said tackles Scott Sanderson and Ryan McShane, center Marc McCloskey and tight end David Knuff are indefinitely suspended after a fight outside the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity house early Sunday morning.

Knuff, a sophomore from Huntington Beach, Calif., was charged with obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct, riot and fourth-degree assault.

Sanderson, a sophomore from Concord, Calif., McShane, a freshman from Lafayette, Calif., and McCloskey, a junior from Bend, Ore., were not cited at the time of the incident. They were suspended from the team after an athletic department investigation.

Coach Mike Price said there is "a chance" all four players could be re-instated. "But only when I think their behavior is appropriate and they have earned the privilege."

Sanderson and McCloskey started all 12 games last season. McShane backed up senior Clay Reis. Knuff was the No. 2 tight end.

The Cougars are scheduled to start spring practice next

Thursday.
