Boy Killed In 2-Car Crash
BELLINGHAM - A 4-year-old boy was killed and three adults injured yesterday in a two-vehicle collision that closed the Mount Baker Highway for six hours.
Dead at the scene was Jordan P. Malone, of Sumas, a passenger in a 1991 Honda Civic driven by Jennifer L. Engholm, 21, of Deming, Whatcom County. Late last night, Engholm was in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital, where all the victims were admitted. She suffered leg and head injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, Jeremy G. Tritt, 21, was in serious condition with facial injuries. His passenger, Gregory Tritt, 45, was in critical condition with head and abdominal injuries.
Both Tritts, who are from Oak Harbor, were in a Dodge pickup going westbound. They apparently crossed the center line at 4:39 p.m. and collided with Engholm's vehicle, which was traveling eastbound just west of Deming.
