Pam Carter To Join Tukwila Council
TUKWILA - With the city's comprehensive plan and the revitalization of Highway 99 and local neighborhoods as her priorities, Pam Carter on Monday will be sworn in as the city's newest councilwoman.
Carter, 45, was among 10 candidates who sought to fill the vacancy left when Dorothy De Rodas died last month. She was unanimously selected by the City Council earlier this week.
Carter, a substitute teacher in the South Central and Highline school districts, is chairwoman of the South Central Citizen Advisory Board and has served on several school committees.
She has lived in the Foster neighborhood for 21 years, was a member of the pre-annexation zoning task force for her neighborhood, helped found the new Foster Community Club and is an active member in the Friends of Foster Library organization.
Carter is married and has two daughters. She will serve at least through November.
The council also approved a new three-year contract with the police department, bringing 18 months of negotiations to a close. Officers will receive a retroactive wage increase of 3.5 percent for 1994 and will gain a salary raise of 3.15 percent this year.
The city currently has 58 police officers. Two more will be added this year, to be funded through federal grants.
