Man Given One Year For Murder Role

EVERETT - A 22-year-old man involved in the murder last year of an Everett teenager was sentenced yesterday to a year in the Snohomish County Jail.

On Jan. 25, a jury convicted Dwayne Dodgen of first-degree rendering criminal assistance in the stabbing death of Matthew Everist, 17, of Everett.

Dodgen has been in jail since October and will receive credit for the 101 days he has served, according to documents filed in Snohomish County Superior Court.

Everist was killed last January, but his body was not found for eight months. Dodgen helped hide the victim's body.

Seth Weber has been charged with first-degree murder, and Anthony Crane has been charged with first-degree rendering criminal assistance. Both are awaiting trial.

Crane, Dodgen and Weber allegedly picked up Everist at an Everett restaurant and drove him to a remote site along the Snohomish River, where Crane allegedly sprayed Everist with a chemical irritant. Weber then allegedly put a "sleeper hold" on Everist until he lost consciousness, took a knife from Everist's pocket and stabbed him repeatedly, according to court papers.

After the killing, the three men allegedly helped hide Everist's body.
