NFL -- Shell Won't Coach L.A., Report Says

LOS ANGELES - Art Shell reportedly has been told he will not coach the Los Angeles Raiders next season.

KNBC-TV reported last night that team owner Al Davis has informed Shell he no longer will be head coach. The Daily News of Los Angeles reported Monday that assistant coach Mike White was expected to replace Shell.

The Los Angeles Times and KNBC said yesterday morning that White would take over the head-coaching spot, but both news organizations said Davis agonized over the decision, and KNBC said Davis still might change his mind.

Shell, who has been with the Raiders as a player and coach for 27 years, reportedly has been offered an unspecified front-office position.
