Kamiak's Kellar To Play For Ewu

The Eastern Washington University coaching staff was impressed with Adam Kellar's ability to catch a football. Pretty impressive, considering that Kellar had just one catch last season for Kamiak High School.

Kellar, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end, said yesterday he would sign a letter of intent to play football for EWU. Kellar said he planned to sign the letter this afternoon.

Kellar was a second-team all-Western AA Conference tight end after catching only one pass for 14 yards. His main responsibility was to block for running back J.J. Reed, who ran for 945 yards.

"It'll be nice (at EWU)," Kellar said. "I wanted to go somewhere where I could get some catches."

He visited the EWU campus in Cheney last weekend, and Monday made an oral commitment to accept a scholarship.

"I love the coach (Mike Kramer). He's a real good guy," said Kellar, who was seventh in tackles as a defensive end for Kamiak. "I liked the players, too. It's a good program down there, and I can see myself starting in a couple of years."

Kellar considered Utah State, Idaho, Hastings (Neb.) and Hamilton (N.Y.) before deciding to accept a scholarship from EWU.

Kellar, who has a 3.26 grade-point average, plans to major in art and wants to pursue a career as a cartoonist.

Other WesCo players expected to sign letters of intent today are defensive back Torry Hollimon (with Washington State University) of Cascade and tight end David Stachelski (Boise State) of Marysville-Pilchuck.
