No Prison For Killer Of Mom
SALEM - A 16-year-old has admitted to murdering his mother by stabbing her 29 times but he won't be going to prison.
Dominic Holmes of Salem entered his guilty plea yesterday in a juvenile proceeding and was sent to MacLaren School in Woodburn. When he turns 21, he will be free to return to society.
Holmes admitted stabbing his mother on the evening of Sept. 21. She died on a wooded path near their upscale south Salem home. He returned home afterward and washed himself of the blood but was unsuccessful in destroying all the evidence. Prosecutors said a trail of his mother's blood led from the house to a family car.
Police theorize that Holmes used the car to dispose of the knife. They never found a weapon.
Holmes is the only Marion County juvenile in memory to be accused of murder and not be sent to adult court for trial.
