Man Guilty In Midwife's Death

HILLSBORO, Ore. - A man charged with killing a nurse-midwife two years ago as she was driving home from delivering a baby was convicted yesterday of aggravated murder.

A Washington County jury found Cesar Barone guilty on all four counts less than two hours after beginning deliberations.

Barone, 34, was charged with killing 41-year-old Martha Bryant while she was driving home Oct. 9, 1992.

Bryant's car was riddled with 9mm bullets, making her lose control. Barone then pulled the bleeding Bryant from her car, shoved her into the back of his car and tried to rape her before shooting her in the head and dumping her body on the road, according to

prosecutors.
