Federal Way Man Dies After Fight At Little League Game

RENTON - A 46-year-old Federal Way man has died from injuries after being punched and hitting his head on concrete bleachers during a Little League baseball game last week.

Ralph Baldwin died Saturday at Harborview Medical Center. An autopsy was to be done today to determine the cause of his death.

According to a police report, Baldwin and another man were watching a game between Federal Way and Everett teams Thursday at 5:50 p.m. at Liberty Park when a dispute broke out.

Several witnesses told police Baldwin and his friend were drunk and ill-behaved during the game. After the men ignored requests to be quiet, several fans asked them to leave, the police report said.

Baldwin and his friend left but returned a short time later, the report said. An Everett man asked Baldwin to quiet down, and Baldwin started moving toward him, prompting the punch, witnesses told police.

Baldwin fell several rows and hit his head, said police spokeswoman Penny Bryant.

She said it's unclear whether the Everett man or Baldwin knew anybody playing in the game, which was postponed while a helicopter landed in right field to transport Baldwin to the hospital.

She also said police are uncertain whether the dispute was related to the game.

Police will pass on their findings to the King County prosecutor's office, which will decide whether to file any charges.
