Ex-Wash. Man Held In Indiana Slayings -- Two Teenagers Killed In Brutal Knife Attack
LaPORTE, Ind. - A former Pierce County, Wash., man has been charged in the knifing deaths of two LaPorte teenagers.
Robert Paul McIntyre, 23, was charged Wednesday in LaPorte Circuit Court with two counts of murder in the deaths of Marcos Ruiz, 18, and Rhonda Calvert, 15, a week ago at the Ruiz home.
McIntyre was arrested early Tuesday in Valparaiso, where he was staying with a girlfriend.
Police said he slit Ruiz's throat with a hunting knife, then stabbed Calvert.
Court documents don't provide a motive for the killings.
"This guy deserves the death penalty, and if we can get the death penalty, we're going to," LaPorte County Prosecutor William Herrbach said.
Police said Calvert had been out with McIntyre before going to the Ruiz home, where she was a frequent baby-sitter for Ruiz's 4-year-old brother.
McIntyre has "numerous arrests" in the Tacoma and Seattle areas, Tacoma police spokesman Jim Mattheis said. The last was March 4, 1993, on an assault charge.
McIntyre was involuntarily committed for 90 days to Western State Hospital near Steilacoom, Wash., on Jan. 7, The News Tribune of Tacoma reported.
Authorities in Indiana said he moved to LaPorte about a month ago.
Police found and arrested McIntyre using information from his
mother.
