Burglary Suspects Charged In Deadly Innis Arden Case
Charges were filed yesterday against two teens in last week's Innis Arden burglary in which a third alleged accomplice was shot dead by the homeowner.
The prosecution will decide next week whether to also file charges against the homeowner, Gene Maddox, who fatally shot 15-year-old Adam Costin in the back as he chased the intruders from his property.
Charged with first-degree burglary were 18-year-old David Roe Jr. of Lynnwood and 23-year-old Dennis Kittleson, whose last known address was in Westport, Grays Harbor County.
Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Barbara Linde, who filed the charges, recommended bail for the two be set at $50,000. Arraignment was set for Friday.
The shooting occurred about 8:15 a.m. Thursday after Maddox was awakened by noises in his home in the 16600 block of 10th Avenue Northwest.
Arming himself with his pistol, he told police he stepped into the hallway and saw intruders and the flash of a knife.
Pursuing them and firing several rounds from inside his house,
Maddox heard one shout that he had been shot and called 911 after losing sight of them.
Police found Costin fatally wounded near Maddox's property a short time later. Roe, who had been shot in the groin, was taken into custody at Northwest Hospital, where Kittleson had dropped him off.
According to the charges, both men claim to have been waiting in a car while Costin and the other went to burglarize the house.
