Seamount Fastpitch Softball

Evergreen

Coach - Burt Pride, first year.

1993 record - 4-14 league (ninth), 4-14 overall.

Returning players - Tracy Riley, jr., SS; Selina Castillo, jr., OF; Michelle Simpson, sr., OF; Anna Pappas, sr., 1B-C; Bourophra Duang, jr., 2B; Dorothy Matthias, sr., 3B; Karen Anderson, sr., OF.

Key newcomers - Tracy Thompson, fr., P-C; Sheena Thompson, fr., P-C; Kelly Ozey, fr., Utility; Teanah Trolio, so., OF; Sara Shaeffer, so., OF; Anna Olivas, Jr., IF; Story Haug, jr., IF.

Outlook - The Wolves have speed to burn and Pride plans to make the most of it with an aggressive offense. He believes they have the defense to back it, too, and is high on his two young pitchers, the Thompson twins. This could be a team to contend with.

Hazen

Coach - Jim Magnuson, 11th year.

1993 record - 15-3 league (second), 22-4 overall (second in state slowpitch tournament).

Returning players - Barb Miele, sr., SS; J.D. Tanner, sr., 1B-P; Shannon Nipert, sr., 2B; Allison Roehl, sr., CF; Sheri Rippon, sr., LF; Joya Hall, sr., RF; Tabby Magnuson, jr., 3B; Diedre Hawkins, sr., P; Karrah Knowle, jr., C; Jennifer Earney, jr., OF.

Key newcomers - Harmony Palmer, fr, P; Amber Anderson, jr., OF; Jennifer Witchey, so, IF; Jennifer Twaddle, so., IF.

Outlook - All but one starter returns from last year's team, so the Highlanders have to be considered a contender. The key, according to Magnuson, is throwing strikes. The defense will be

sound and the hitting should come along quickly.

Highline

Coach - Dave Stark, 12th year.

1993 record - 6-12 league (tied for seventh), 6-14 overall.

Returning players - Cindy Howland, sr., 1B; Leann McNaughton, jr., C; Stephanie Alejo, jr., 3B; Christinia Brunette, sr., SS; Jenny Hagan, jr., LF; Jeanna Faccone, jr., CF; Kelly McGeeHee, jr., RF; Shawna Duncan, jr., 1B; Blanca Nuno, jr., 2B.

Key newcomers - Stephanie McKim, fr., P; Rachel Hiat, fr., 2B; Taya Addison, so., 3B; Shante Roberson, jr., OF; Erin Becker, so., 1B.

Outlook - The Pirates are very young and have a lot of question marks. But McKim brings fastpitch experience to the mound and should do OK if she gets good defense help behind her. Team speed should be a plus.

Kennedy

Coach - Dino Josie, first year.

1993 record - 12-6 league (third), 16-9 overall.

Returning players - Janet Aurelio, sr., 1B-OF; Melissa Budde, jr., SS; Shannon Englin, sr., 2B; Amy Hughes, sr., 3B; Mariah Mkitta, jr., C-OF; Nikki Larson, sr., OF-C; Alison McDowell, jr., OF; Polly Schadeberg, so, 1B-OF; Cheryl Shaull, jr., P-OF.

Key newcomers - Michelle Grosskopf, sr., 1B-3B; Jessica Bruce, so., Utility; Molly Barnett, so., IF-P; Rebecca Saldana, jr., IF-P; Joanna Mummert, jr, OF; Kristin Nyberg, sr., OF.

Outlook - As usual, Kennedy has a good group of athletes and Shaull should be solid on the mound. Josie, an assistant coach the past three years, says the keys are being aggressive on offense and not throwing the ball around defensively.

Liberty

Coach - George Vanni, fourth year.

1993 record - 18-0 league (first), 27-1 overall (first in state slowpitch tournament).

Returning players - Sarah Hakenson, sr., OF; Jenny Howell, sr., 2B; Shawna Hronke, sr., C; Amber Rose, sr., Utility; Jamie Ivanich, sr, IF; Kerrie Washburn, sr., 3B; Karen Hardy, jr., OF; Emma Owings, jr., SS; Kathy Rundquist, so., P.

Key newcomers - Mandi Agnew, so, P; Jody Pedeferri, so., OF; Kristen Mehlum, so, C-OF; Becca Jones, fr., 1B.

Outlook - If the pitching is as sound as Vanni thinks it could be, the Patriots should

Lindbergh

Coach - Stephanie Dickens, second year.

1993 record - 10-8 league (tied for fourth), 15-12 ovearll.

Returning players - Frances Rhee, sr., OF; Danielle DeLappe, sr., C; Danielle Ralph, so., SS; Amanda Bash, jr., OF; Sondra Pai, sr., 1B; Jami Kauzlarich, sr., 2B; Kristi Arnson, so., P.

Key newcomers - Heidi Swift, jr., 1B; Heather Brandel, jr., P-3B; Alicia Arnson, fr., C; Linsey Lantz, so., 3B; Marissa DiJulio, so., P-OF; Beth Laudenbach, jr., OF-C.

Outlook - With three strong pitchers and a solid defense behind them, the Eagles could soar this season. They will run on the basepaths, but the key will be getting on base - how quickly the hitting comes around.

Mount Rainier

Coach - Russ Elliott, first year.

1993 record - 10-8 league (tied for fourth), 12-12 overall.

Returning players - Jennifer Ratcliff, jr., P; Carrie Geraghty, so, 1B; Beth Ransom, jr., SS; Kellie Hernandez, so, RF-P; Lori Perez, sr., CF.

Key newcomers - Marrisa Coffman, sr., LF; Carrie Schlaitzer, so., C; Kathlete Fugere, so., 2B; Rhonda Woodward, jr., 3B; Jamie Hogan, jr., 3B; Tasha Cochran, jr., OF-P; Amy White, jr., OF.

Outlook - Coming into the season, pitching appears to be the Rams' biggest question mark. Elliott believes they will be competitive, especially if opponents are forced to hit the ball. With just two seniors, this is a young team that should improve steadily.

Mount Si

Coach - Greg Crotts, first year.

1993 record - 8-10 league (sixth), 15-14 overall.

Returning players - Janae Magnuson, jr., 1B; Shannon Adams, sr., 3B; Genessa Olson, jr., OF; Erin Gilmore, jr., C; Kelly Stubbert, so., OF; Angie Tuttle, so, OF; Julie Engen, so, SS-P.

Key newcomers - Cherry Williams, jr., P; Shanon Parkins, jr., P; Nicole Treadway, jr., P; Cassie Burman, jr., OF; Stacy Callies, jr., OF; Jamie Ely, sr., 2B; Maria Fury, Jr., C.

Outlook - Mount Si could be the league's most improved team this season - and there are only three seniors on the team. They have a trio of pitchers with fastpitch experience and a sturdy defense. Again, hitting probably will make or break this club.

Renton

Coach - Janet Wheeler, second year.

1993 record - 1-17 league (10th), 1-19 overall.

Returning players - Nicky Nelson, jr., C-IF; Nichole Clemens, so., C-1B-DH; Stephanie Waltosz, so., OF; Christina Segundo, jr., P; Sheri Davis, jr., 1B-DH; Kindahl Reed, sr., Utility.

Key newcomers - Meggan Pritchard, jr, SS; Melinda Gage, sr., OF; Deanna Berndsen, so., 2B; Camille Abe, fr., IF; Melanie Colton, so., OF; Cory Randles, so., OF; Rochelle Pederson, fr., P.

Outlook - The Indians are still young, but expect to move up in the standings this season with improvements both offensively and defensively. Wheeler said the pitching appears strong. Inexperience at key positions could be a stumbling block early.

Tyee

Coach - Kathy Seba, third year.

1993 record - 6-12 in league (tied for seventh), 10-14 overall.

Returning players - Nealah Lee, sr., C; Jennifer Rickert, sr., OF; Meenear Sao, jr., OF; Alysia Heyer, jr., P-2B; Tammi Johnson, jr., SS; Jaymie Forsberg, jr., OF; Shannon Otey, so., OF; Lisa Rary, so., Utility.

Key newcomers - Misty Jorgensen, fr., P; Andrea Rivera, jr., P-3B; Mindy Wernex, so., 1B.

Outlook - A lack of fastpitch experience could slow the Totems early, but they have the talent to be in the playoff picture down the stretch. They have good depth on the mound with three pitchers and will be aggressive on offense. Playing solid defense will be a key.
