UW Fugitive Arrested In Calif.
FULLERTON, Calif. - Police arrested a fugitive who eluded authorities for eight months after being accused of stealing computer chips from the University of Washington and other universities.
Avram Morar, 24, was arrested yesterday at California State University, Fullerton, and was being held without bail today in Orange County Jail.
Morar, a Romanian immigrant, jumped bail in August after the University of Washington arrested him in connection with 26 computer-equipment thefts that cost the school about $170,000. Police found 125 computer memory chips in his jacket pocket.
In addition to the Washington charges, Morar was wanted for thefts in California and Arizona, and was on probation in California for burglaries at Cal State Fullerton.
Morar's wife Paula, 21, was arrested on suspicion of harboring a fugitive.
