Decatur Buries Federal Way With Three-Point Attack
FEDERAL WAY - Ed Boyce's inside-out plan went out the window in a hurry.
His Decatur High School basketball players were so pumped for last night's showdown with rival Federal Way, they couldn't help themselves from pumping up a flurry of three-point shots. Even Jovan Hollins, the Gators' defensive specialist, got sucked up in the whirlwind, uncorking an uncharacteristic trio of treys - and making all of them.
In all, top-ranked Decatur (12-0, 19-1) buried 9 of 17 three-point baskets, including 7 of 10 in the first half, in flying to a 70-58 road victory over No. 3 Federal Way (9-3, 16-4), which played without Michael Dickerson and his 30-point scoring average. Dickerson was ejected from Federal Way's previous game, Tuesday against Kentridge, and was serving a one-game suspension in accordance to Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules.
"If they would have had Dickerson, it would have been a lot tougher," Decatur's Andre Pleasant said. "He lit us up last time."
Roberto Bergersen (20 points) and Andre Pleasant (19) each had a pair of three-pointers along with Ryan Tauscher (8) for Decatur.
