Seen, Heard, Said
You may have thought that the big news today, ladies, is that Whoopi Goldberg has been chosen to host the Oscars - which she has. Or that Disney has gotten the rights to making the Nancy Kerrigan movie - which it has. But nooooo. The big news is that Engelbert Humperdinck doesn't want your underwear. He told that to Arsenio. And he has a reason: "I hate it when they throw their bras at me - their panties. It's such a waste. None of them fit me."
Now that the Oscars and Kerrigan things have been settled, are we out of stories? No way. There's Fox going after Tonya Harding's side of Skategate. And while we're on the subject of being innocent until proven guilty, Snoop Doggy Dogg, who is facing a murder charge, is performing tonight on the American Music Awards (8 p.m., KOMO-TV). Dick Clark, who produces the show, justifies Dogg's presence: "You don't sell 3 1/2 million albums in three weeks and not carry with you some degree of importance to a certain part of the audience, a big part of the audience." There's no word on whether the show will tone down Dogg's X-rated lyrics, which even this column won't print.
Tom and Roseanne are in the news again. They say ABC is refusing to air an episode of "Roseanne" because it shows her and Mariel Hemingway exchanging a kiss in a gay bar, which Roseanne is visiting with her bisexual friend Nancy (Sandra Bernhard). Tom says they submitted the story to ABC two weeks ago and it was rejected. The Arnolds - who are executive producers of the show - refuse to cut the kissing scene. The episode was scheduled to air March 1, says Tom. The network has no comment.
Meanwhile, last week, there was another incident at The Viper Room in L.A. It seems actress Nicole Eggert ("Baywatch") and model Estee Stanley got into a fight over one Eric Etaberi. Witnesses say Nicole approached Estee and yelled: "Eric loves me, not you. . . . He thinks you're disgusting. He tells me all the time how much he loathes you and that you should leave him alone." Nasty, nasty. Estee's riposte: "If you think that's true you should check out his phone bills. He calls and wants to see me whenever you're out of town." Oooooooooh. Point to Estee. Scratching, slapping and hair-pulling ensued and Estee has filed charges against Nicole.
