Prep Swimming -- Gray Powers Kentridge To West Central Crown

PUYALLUP - Trever Gray led Kentridge to the West Central AAA District's Section II boys swim championship yesterday at Rogers High School.

The Chargers outscored Curtis, 281 points to 221.

Gray won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.23 seconds, edging Curtis' Jim McGuire, who finished in 22.54. Gray was also victorious in the 100 backstroke (53.19), almost two seconds ahead of runner-up Anthony Riggio of Decatur.

Rich Cromwell of Lakes was the meet's other double-winner. He won the 200 free and 500 free, both with easy margins over Federal Way's Ken Van Pool.

METRO LEAGUE

Seattle Prep captured its third Metro League coed swimming championship in four years with a resounding win Friday night at Madison Pool.

The Panthers scored 601 points to easily outdistance Garfield's 367 and Roosevelt's 365.

Panther boys won six of 11 events while the girls were even more dominating, gaining eight victories.

RENTON - Mount Rainier, the defending Clas AA state champion, totaled 306 points and won the Seamount League boys swim championship yesterday. Hazen was second with 241 points.

Hazen's Fergus Hudson turned in a state-best 22.21 time in the 50-yard freestyle and also won the 100 freestyle in 48.67.
