Teen Dies After Falling From Mall Railing

SPOKANE - A 17-year-old boy fell to his death yesterday from a second-floor railing at a mall crowded with Christmas shoppers, the Spokane County coroner said.

Daniel Corley of Spokane was pronounced dead at Holy Family Hospital, Coroner Graham McConnell said.

McConnell described the teenager as autistic.

NorthTown Mall, in a statement, said two eyewitnesses reported the boy climbed onto a railing on the mall's second floor and tried to jump down to a ledge. He missed and fell 30 feet to the first floor.

The boy was thought to be shopping with family members, at least one of whom reportedly was with him when he fell, the mall said.
