Seattle City Council -- `Truth Squad' Ignoring Roats-Weeks Campaign

Times Executive Editor Michael R. Fancher proclaims The Times as the "Truth Squad" for exposing campaign inaccuracies and presenting unbiased coverage of the election. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Tom Weeks took $10,000 in city money for his personal political purposes and he gets away with it with only a minor slap on the wrist from Seattle's elections watchdogs - the end result is an interest-free loan available only to him when he should have been at least charged with a criminal misdemeanor offense. In addition, the incumbent's campaign literature, speeches and even his voters' pamphlet material repeat the same false statements over and over again. Where is the "Truth Squad" when it comes to the campaign between Pam Roats and Tom Weeks for City Council Position 6?

The solution of the Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission was no solution at all. Tom Weeks gets to pay the money back in three installments - the last not even due until after the election - without any interest payments or any other penalty for using public money.
