Home Depot To Install In-Store Fast-Food Diner

How about a Quarter Pounder with those 10-penny nails? Starting this fall, Home Depot, the do-it-yourself construction superstore, will test Depot Diners - in-store fast-food restaurants, featuring an assorted menu from McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut and others.

"We're doing this as a customer service," said Jeffrey Langfelder, director of special projects for Home Depot. "We have no experience running restaurants and have no idea at all if any money can be made, but we want to make the store more customer-friendly. Most of our customers are shopping in our stores for at least an hour every trip."

Test markets include South Florida, Atlanta, Southern California and the New York City area.

Some Depot Diners will be run by McDonald's and include an abbreviated McDonald's menu along with pizza, Breyer's ice cream and Hebrew National hotdogs. Different national fast-food chains will sell food at other Depot Diners.
