Michel Hollard, French Resistance Hero

PARIS - Michel Hollard, dubbed "The Man Who Saved London" for his work in the French Resistance during World War II, has died at the age of 95, his family announced yesterday. Mr. Hollard, who died July 16, was buried in his small village of Cevennes in southern France.

Mr. Hollard transmitted information to British intelligence in 1943 on the placement of V-1 "buzz bomb" sites in Normandy, allowing Allied bombers to destroy them.

The buzz bombs were unmanned, explosive-laden aircraft programmed to fly a set distance before their motors stalled, causing them to crash and explode. Weapons of terror, they usually went down over heavily populated areas in the British capital.

Mr. Hollard, a hero of World War I, was named to France's Legion of Honor for his Resistance work. He also received the Distinguished Service Order, one of Britain's highest military honors.
